Congratulations Gus!
Cinematographer and friend, Angus Kemp has been nominated for an AFI Award for ‘Best Cinematography in a Documentary’ for his work on the film Strange Birds in Paradise. The film is an eye-opening look at the oppression of West Papuan people and their ways of life by the ruling Indonesian goverment. It has also been nominated for 3 other AFI awards including best feature length Documentary. I highly recommend that you see it.
Here is Gus shooting a couple of kids rolling down a sand dune for my Jessica Says video clip.

at No No Gallery:
The Invisible Hand
3-6 November 2010
Opening Wednesday 3rd November 6-8pm
The Invisible Hand project is the first time collaboration between dancer Yahna Fookes and video artist Catherine Dwyer. The artists present a dance work through the medium of screen dance. New choreographic possibilities are explored through the cuts and edits of the film. A dance partner is created through the use of rear projection . Here we see the dancer engaging with her double self, playing with both synchronicity and repetition. The uncanny effect of the dancer and her double creates a mesmerising set of possibilities for experiencing and creating dance on screen. Choreography and Performance: Yahna Fookes Director: Catherine Dwyer Cinematography: Angus Kemp Sound Design: Alex Akers Costume Design: Sheena-Lee Sexton

Shelly Love Workshop
Last week I was lucky enough to participate in Reeldance’s dance filmmaking workshop with UK artist Shelly Love. For 3 days we explored dance in relation to space; real, imagined, filmic or otherwise. And I got to explore my own interest in rear projection and synchronicity. Here are a couple of still’s from the workshop:
